Great Falls ranks high in housing market forecast
Montana is not ailing from the recent economic downturn as most states in the country are. And on the contrary the 5 cities in Montana are on the Housing Predictor's top 25 list including Great Falls.
Billings tops the list as the best housing market in the country for 2009; Great Falls came in at #11 on the list.
With in this list only 10 markets are expected to experience appreciation over the course of 2009. Bozeman and Billings fall into that list as well as Livingston and Missoula. The forecast ranks housing markets based on their probability of hitting their expected appreciation for the year.
Pat Goodover, president of the Great Falls Association of Realtors, offered some insight: "It seems to indicate that part of the reason that Montana is not following the national trend is at least in part, we don't have the foreclosure rate that the other states do. We have a fairly decent unemployment rate, if you can call it that; we're not following the national trend there either."
Even though the markets have slowed slightly, Great Falls is projected to maintain a consistent sales through 2009. A new wind farm has brought jobs to the area, and there's talk of more jobs in the energy business coming.
